TRICARE Management Activity ESY Report Card

TRICARE Management Activity has completed the 2007-2008 Extended School Year (ESY) and as required, the ESY report card has been generated.

SUBJECT: GRADE

Reading Comprehension - F

Following Directions - F

Effective Services Plan Writing - F

Ethics - F

Completion of Effective Projects - F

Listening to Congress - F

Listening to the Navy Surgeon General's Recommendations - F

Listening to the Chief Medical Officer of the Coast Guard (SG)Recommendations - F

Listening to the Army Surgeon General's Recommendations - F

Listening to Marine Corps Recommendations - F

Listening to the Army Vice Chief of Staff Recommendations - F

Listening to the Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps - F

Listening to National Autism Organization Recommendations - F

Reasons for grades of failure:

TRICARE Management Activity has previously solicited input (prior to yesterday's additional solicit for input) from medical personnel and parents, and they have failed to act. This demonstrates a severe inability to read with comprehension and is indicitive of hearing impairment. It also demonstrates an inability to act in a manner that is consistent with the ethical and moral obligations of the nation's top medical personnel.
You can read the August 6, 2008 solicitation for input HERE

TRICARE Management Activity has continually failed to write effective service plans that will provide medically necessary treatment for military dependent children with autism. They have also failed to complete effective projects in a timely manner. We are three years into this TRICARE Management Activity created travesty which continually and further segregates military children with autism, and prevents them from receiving medically necessary treatment.

PLACEMENT FOR 2008-2009 School Year:

WILL NOT PROGRESS to next grade level

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Intensive Remedial Reading
Intensive Remedial Writing
Intensive Behavior Therapy with a specific focus on Ethical and Moral Obligations

FURTHER RECOMMENDATIONS:

Full Psychological Evaluation
Auditory Testing to include an assessment for Central Auditory Processing Disorder

*** If TRICARE Management Activity fails to make significant gains and meet goals, to be outlined by the Individual Education Plan (IEP) Team, by the end of the second quarter of the 2008-2009 school year; temporary revocation of medical license's and residential treatment should be considered.

Note About the Author:
I am NOT an Educator, Psychologist, or Medical Doctor (although I do have honorary degrees). I am a military spouse with four children, two who have autism. I am also irritated by the continued inability of TRICARE Management Activity to provide access to medically necessary treatment our children with autism require!

Ditto, ditto, and ditto.

In the same boat here. One child with Autism, one that may have PDD-NOS (official dx not being given until he has had 3 or so months of ST and ST at school), and one NT child. Gearing up for our battle with Tricare this next week, and I stumbled across your blog.

Was told nearly 1.5 years ago that we could not see a DAN! dr, only our developmental pediatrician that only advocates therapy and traditional medications, and only now finding out about EFMP and ECHO. Nice job, educating the doctors at the bases of MILITARY programs that Special Education students need.
