A Big Autism Salutes For David Warner II !!!

Yes, that's right, an Autism Salutes for my husband! He is my best friend. He is a wonderful father to our four children. And today it was announced that my husband, Dave, was awarded Airman of the Year for the 142nd Fighter Wing!!!

Dave, I am so incredibly proud of you that it brings tears to my eyes. You are a man of great integrity and great strength. I knew it the minute our eyes met across the bar in Wild Wing Cafe twelve and a half years ago, and your integrity and strength grow stronger with each passing year. I am just so damn proud of you and I love you with all of my soul!

Ok... enough mush! Let me tell you a little about my husband. Dave works in Financial Management. He makes sure people get paid.

Dave has helped many military families who have children with autism and other special needs, get travel and expense related issues resolved in order for these families to get their children's treatment needs met, without undue financial hardship being placed on the family. Outside of work hours. These were not just 50 mile trips. These were families who travelled hundreds, if not, thousands of miles for major medical treatment. My husband was honored to help them.

Another example, and this one I always found amusing, involved our Base Commander. The Colonel had gone TDY (temporary duty station), and upon his return was required to submit his travel voucher to get re-imbursed for any related expenses. The Colonel turned in his paperwork, and Dave found a msitake. He then called the Colonel who said he could live without the twenty cents. My husband made the Colonel re-submit his travel voucher because the Colonel was due the twenty cents. I laughed so hard when Dave told me this story! Yeh... He's like that!

So... Dave sends me an email later this morning telling me to go buy a new dress. Ahhh... yes... there is an awards banquet. Semi-formal at that. So I looked up some pictures of where the event is going to be held. Ohhhh my... A new dress. New shoes. And matching handbag. Yes, they are NECESSARY. You're talking, here, about an autism mom who gave up "dressing" a long time ago. I'm a naked faced, hair plopped on top of my head (most of the time), cami top, jeans and Birkie wearin', Ameribag sling "purse" carryin' momma! Good grief, I don't even own a bottle of hairspray... or any gel for that matter. And what to do with this mop of mine? I certainly am not going to cut it off! I'm growing it out really long again, so I can lop off a foot to donate to Locks of Love, and still have some hair left. I have no time for daily styling, you see! :D Yes, me... the ex-hair-artist. That was another life and a story for another day. Open to suggestions... you know how to get ahold of me! :D

This is going to be a fun adventure for me. I've got two months to prepare. And I am very sure that it will be absolutely wonderful for my husband that I am just so proud of, to see me "dolled" up, knowing that we're "steppin' out" to celebrate his achievement and award for Airman of the Year!!!

Ok... one more mush. Dave! YOU ROCK!!! And I LOVE YOU!!!

Congratulations Dave! I told Angela weeks ago that you should have your own salute.

Here is something worth saluting...

You might be interested in a YouTube video that was made by a mom of an autistic boy. It's called "The Mad Hatter."

wow... I guess the ND community has found Autism Salutes and posted a totally irrelevant comment on Autism Salutes. That cracks me up.

I'll let this one stand because I think it is an amusing comment given the initial post, but further anon comments of this nature will be deleted. Grow a couple would ya? I mean seriously.

People, and in particular children, can recover. My boys alone are a testament to that. They are strongly on the road!

Shame on you. You Anon. Autism is a nuerobiological disorder - meaning a body wide systems disorder. There is recovery, just as there can be and IS from many different disorders and diseases. You may want to check your history again.

So FREAK anon - go about your life - and please do let me know how that works out for you and your child in another 5, 10, 15, 20 years - won't you? I know where my boys will be... in college! And on there way to earning money to pay taxes to pay for your child who is not recovered to this point... which thousands of children with autism are doing.

So go on and tell your self it's a neurological difference - autism is not... but maybe what you have is LOL

I mean - seriously... BRING IT - but you won't and CAN NOT. SHAME

sorry for the typo - it should have been "their"

eewww I will refrain from speaking now - cuz it will be - not so nice.

I am going to celebrate my hubby's AWARD now!!!!

Thank you!

Oh Yeh FREAK anon you're from Canada right???

Go do your research. I may feel some sorrow for you tonight...

Not so much... No apology.

People and children can recover from autism. It has ben a loooooong journey and we are still on our way.

Go find a song that talks about befrosted paths to the unknown and you may gain a clue from this.

Until you use your real name and can say that you've digestted it all... DO NOT EVER come here and post again!!! Happy Hunting :D

And ahh...bug off.

It is so wonderful that you have something great to celebrate.
There is nothing like seeing someone you love get the recognition they deserve.
Maybe your anonymous commenter just can't stand to read about anyone's good fortune, shame on them is right. Don't let it get you down, they don't pay rent in your mind, body or soul and they don't deserve to be there.

Congrats to Dave! And you too. The military wife works just as hard as the soldier, yes? Especially the military autism mom wife. Enjoy the moment, Ang.

okay yes we didn't discuss the hair thingy - but a stylish upswept do ought to be just the thing. You will need to get some gel or hair spray though and I like the streak idea but thinking pink wouldn't be so right for you. :) Or maybe depending on the pink.....

So my official congrats to David. I am very proud!

(I think you are too) Warrior Nani,

Up do... yeah, PERFECT! Ang, listen to your Mama. Don't listen to me, my idea of an up do is a ponytail and a bunch of bobby pins (and probably some pencils and my missing glasses).

Ang, you've gotta go all out - do it for all of us so we can live vicariously through you! How exciting!

Karen you are so right - that's why I had to speak my mind and now they've left! They don't pay my rent and I'm not paying theirs. Thanks :D

Kim... that's what Dave has been telling me since he found out... I do work hard. I appreciate your thoughts. We all work hard. Autism moms and dads, military or not, we work our butts off.

Mom I told Jeanne that purple would be a little more my speed!

OMG an updo???? I too usually have a pencil in my updo. I wonder how that would go over along with a purple streak? It could turn out to be the latest hair accessory - kind of like the glasses=libriarian look??? LMAO I don't know if all my hair will fit!!! If I wore a bra - remember the cami top thing - it would be to where the strap is - all one length and enough hair for three people! Good Grief. It might give me a head-ache. I must stop being cheeky now.

I will go all out :D The banquet is about 2 weeks before our 12th anniversary! And I will be posting pics. This is just so exciting. I am just so damn proud of my husband. He soooo ROCKS!!!

Oh Yeh...

Yes, I too am proud of Dave. He's the shit or as I say in my world, ( "a good shit").

I give you guys lots of credit. Not many people could go where you two have been and still be together and in love. Thats just huge. You kids show and reflect to everyone just how special you both are. You both have major street cred in my book.

Kudos Dave.
