Not Romantic or Sexy, But Definitely An Autism Contest!

I've announced the WINNERS HERE!!!

I know... cheeky title! I couldn't help it with Kim's contest title ( HERE). I've had these PECS hanging around for awhile now. I decided I needed to do something with them. So I took an afternoon and went through each drawer, all 120 of them, and came up with this.

Not just one, not two, but three of these bags. Each bag has at least 140 PECS, if not more. They are laminated and some have velcro already on the back. And I am giving them away!!! It makes no difference whether you are a military or civilian parent, or a teacher or therapist just starting out on this journey. All I care about is seeing these go somewhere where they are going to get used and children are going to be helped.

So leave a comment to enter. I'll be announcing the winner before the end of the month so stay tuned!

This is a great and generous contest.I am glad we no longer need these!!!

There was a post on Charlie In Wonderland awhile back about a site that connects people who need supplements others may not be using anymore. You should post this contest there. I can't remember or find the site!
I do remember all the bags of those little laminated things. Quite sometime after we no longer needed PECS, I moved the refrigerator and found an embarrassing amount of them under there(Otherwise I am an expert housekeeper!HAHAHAHAH!)

Ang, great contest!! We do not use these with Charlie anymore either; but, I just sent out an email to everyone in Dr. Davis' group telling them all to hop over here and enter your contest!

Karen, the site you are thinking of is AutismFreeZone.com. I will pop over there and let everyone know this contest is running. Great idea!

This is a really great contest!! We are just starting to use PECS with our daughter who was just recently diagnosed with Autism. If we were to win it would be amazing because this is all kind of confusing and tricky to figure out. Thank you for consindering each and every comment that you receive.

This is fantastic. I can no longer use my boardmaker (for Macintosh computers) with my new computer and therefore can't make any more PECS pictures to share with parents. I think I'll do the same with the boardmaker software! It feels great being able to help other parents who struggle with the high cost of autism or apraxia.

I would love to win this contest and be able to donate the "goodies" to Keshet and Have Dreams, two agencies that offer some of the best supports and services to children with autism and their families in the Chicago metro area...
I may even find a few items that my handsome and wonderful twenty-three year old son might still find useful!
Thanks!

What a great idea for ways to put unused materials back to work! My son is nearly 4yrs old and still non-verbal. We have been doing some PECS with him but so far just with actual pictures of objects. These would really help get him ready for a communication device.

WOW! Ellen (above) told us about your contest-glad to find your site. I am an SLP in private practice (just little old me) and would love to have these to loan families as we get them set up with their systems for their kids---sometimes it's easier to just "borrow" something like this in order to find out the power it can offer to many of our kids.

I am so glad you are offering this contest. As a mother to a newly diagnosed and nonverbal child, something like this would be a godsend.

What a wonderful gift to the winning families. Pecs have allowed our daughter to communicate when words will not come.

Thank you

What a wonderful gift for a classroom. Where this can effect 7 children!wow. Teachers just do not have the time to make all of this. THough the children would benefit from the visual supports. Teachers are overwhelmed with all of the work of making materials. I can only hope that some lucky class could get these pics. I have some teachers in mind that i can give them to. This would improve thier instruction!

What an amazing contest, I have a six year old little guy who was given a pecs book with all black and white photos. which makes evrthing look the same so winning a contest where you get actual PECS would be such a blessing! Thanks for all your support.

Thank you for offering this contest to so many people. We have a nearly non-verbal daughter, who uses many picture supports that helps facilitate her vocal speech. This would be a wonderful tool to help her resources help her in her ability to communiate to the world! Thank you you Angela...

My son is at a small but wonderful school serving autistic children. They are very motivated, but being a small school just getting started, they are struggling to get all equipment possible. This would be such a great addition and would help soooo many kids at the school. Right now, enrollment is around 100, and it is all children on the spectrum, no peers, etc, so very scary that there were that many kids in the area not being served well. I dont want to think how many more are out there. Ohio salutes you on a wonderful job with this site.

What a great contest, Love it! Would love to have more PECS around here, compared to Ang's stips of PECS or bag of PECS I have only a few. Foods, rooms, functions and things and always can use more here. But what I really want to do is share with our school district, it seems as though they really do not know the real reasoning to PECS or schedule. This is how my children communicate or if something new is to change I show a visual to help them understand. I really support this contest and thanks for letting me join in as well.

Our son was diagnosed with autism at 2yrs.4 mths.He is now 5 and is still non-verbal.He repeats words with prompts, but is not spontaneous. He is a very visual little boy and very receptive,he just needs assistance verbalizing. We currently use a small book with a few pecs, but a large pecs collection could do wonders. We have tried many different treatments, but this could help break through his world of silence. Thank-you,Fay

Hi. Just saw your blog today as I was trying to find free PECS pictures I can download for my daughter to use. Is there anyway you can email me your PECs pictures? I would really appreciate it. Also, thanks for your advice on where to get the stuff to make these.
